Introduction to Debuffs

Debuffs, whether from genjutsu or poison or a similar RU, can affect more than one character in some instances. The following tables are used to determine the severity of the debuffs applied to each person based on cost.

Note this only applies if you are trying to hit more than one person with a single jutsu, such as a 20 CP poison cloud that hits 2 people. If you are hitting multiple people with an individual jutsu for each person, such as a genjutsu aimed at one person (20 CP) and another genjutsu aimed at another (20 CP), these are treated as single target debuffs.

Debuffs regardless of their RU need triggers, i.e. proximity (poison skin, space-time debuffs), normal to hit mechanics (poison sword reliant on STR /poison cloud reliant on CC), a hand sign (genjutsu), sound (genjutsu), etc. These must be written into the feat itself and apply to all debuffs regardless of which RU they fall under.

The debuffs you can use are restricted based on the number of feats you have. A player must have a minimum of 8 feats to use 20 CP debuffs and a minimum of 15 feats to use 40 CP debuffs.

Debuffs can be upgraded as your character gains more feats, so you need not worry about feats taken as a genin becoming useless later on, however these must remain functionally the same with the only difference being increasing CP costs and debuff effects. A 10 CP debuff to strength can be upgraded to 20 CP or 40 CP versions for free, but cannot be changed to a 20 CP debuff to strength and speed without paying a cost to change the feat.

Q: What happens if one of my stats hits 0?
A: Depends on which stat. If your speed or strength hits 0 your character is unable to move. If your CP runs out or your CC is 0, then you suffer chakra exhaustion which manifests as a -10 to your strength and speed. If your endurance hits 0 then you pass out.
These apply to puppets, summons, combat effective pets, and similar with the following exceptions: There is no penalty for 0 CC, and 0 CP or 0 End = out of commission/poof for the duration of the mission/fight/thread.

Q: What happens if my CC is debuffed while I have an active jutsu with a maintenance cost or a buff?
A: If you have a buff or other jutsu active and are debuffed to the point where that cannot be maintained, the CP costs have been paid and you may complete the round with that buff, but the maintenance cannot be paid again and the active jutsu expires at the end of the round.
